Belpre City Schools is delighted to announce our continued collaboration with the Character Lab Research Network, headquartered in Philadelphia, PA. This continuing partnership has already yielded excellent data to help us hear and understand our students' opinions, ideas, and habits. There will be a Research Activity Launch on Thursday, October 28th during 5th period. During this time, all of our available 7th through 12th grade students will have an opportunity to participate in an online, 30-minute research activity. The questions for this activity have been pre-screened and approved by CLRN staff and BCS staff. However, should any parent or student wish to opt-out, the following opt-out link has been provided by the Character Lab Research Network:

Please remember that this activity is voluntary, and your student can discontinue the activity at any time, even if they start the activity. The results provided by this activity will be made available online later this fall. Previous results from 2020-2021 have been shared with the BCS School Board during public meetings, and remain available online for comparison.
Cross Country Community Service Today the Belpre High School Cross Country team joined the hard-working men of the Holiday Lights Committee to set up the display at Howes Grove Park. The team really enjoyed helping out and gained a greater appreciation for the amount of time and work that goes into this wonderful holiday tradition.
Due to multiple inquiries about donations to the Eagle Clawset, please bring your donations during school hours to the high school main office. We also would like to encourage all donors to support Belpre Area Ministries Food Pantry and other helping organizations such as the Latrobe Street Mission and Salvation Army. We thank all of you for your generosity!
The Student Services Department would like to present the newly-reorganized Eagle Clawset! The Eagle Clawset was originally started by Mr. Mike Seebaugh prior to the COVID years, but due to the past few years being unlike any other, the Eagle Clawset was in need of refreshing! The Eagle Clawset is a FREE supplies exchange where students and/or their families can go to get necessities such as clothing, canned goods, hygiene products, shoes and school supplies. The clothing is a mix of men and women’s clothing, with sizes ranging from XS-XXL. We have tops, sweaters, jeans, sweatpants, pullovers, coats, hoodies, undergarments, socks, etc. The canned goods were just updated in September and cleared out based on expiration dates. They will continue to be filtered through as time goes on to make sure that everything is fresh. Our hygiene products and school supplies have been taken advantage of the most. We have feminine products, deodorants, body wash, shampoo, hand sanitizer and much more! We also have a large stock of book bags that are filled with much-needed school supplies. All of these necessities are available to ANYONE associated with Belpre City Schools, free of charge! The Eagle Clawset has assisted students with broken straps on their book bags, or who spilled their lunch on their shirt, or needed a winter jacket during cold weather. It has also aided new families to the district who needed extensive supplies just to get started due to adverse circumstances. The Eagle Clawset is located on the third floor of the Lawton building, room 304, with an orange banner over the door. Donations are also very much appreciated, especially hygiene items and non-perishables. Overflow clothes and supplies are periodically donated to area food pantries, homeless shelters, and projects such as the Public Defender Corporation. Student Services invites you to utilize the Eagle Clawset at your convenience and we hope that it will continue to be beneficial to many!

Last week Mrs. Edgar accompanied her group of Mock Trial students on a field trip to the historic Washington County Courthouse, where they were able to meet the court staff and experience the ambiance of courtrooms A and B. This was quite beneficial for the students; one of these courtrooms will be where their Mock Trial will occur in January when the court shuts down for the day for the competition! The students were also given the privilege of meeting with two of the Common Pleas Court judges, Judge John M. Halliday and Judge Mark Kerenyi. Both judges were very accommodating, and were eager to answer any questions that the students had. Judge Karenyi stated that Washington County struggles to maintain enough lawyers, and he was hopeful this experience might cause some of our students to consider a career in law to help meet that need! During the time spent in the beautifully maintained courtrooms, the students were allowed time to familiarize themselves with the courtroom layout. They used the courtroom sound system, and even approached the bench to sit in the judge’s chair (see pics)! We believe this field trip was vital to help the students feel more comfortable with the environment, processes and protocols of the courtroom. Please join us in wishing Mrs. Edgar’s students' success as they continue to prepare for their inaugural Mock Trial competition!
The Pride of Belpre will perform in the OMEA State Competition this Sunday, October 31 at 5:00 pm at Welcome Stadium in Dayton, Ohio.

Freshmen Carter Norman and Johnny Miller earned all district honors with their 12th and 16th place finishes, respectively. Junior captain Nick Diaz and freshmen Austin Jenkins and Michael Bills, junior Evan Vowls, and senior Sonny Britton also contributed to the great team effort.
