Belpre City Schools

The spring OHSAA meeting is 3/2/22 at 6:00pm in the BHS library. All athletes who have not played a sport this year must attend with their parent/guardian.

Belpre City Schools is pleased to announce the development of our new Mentoring Program, The PrePair Squad! This program involves twelve high performing high school students who have been hand selected by administration to help mentor some of our elementary school students. Ms. Knuchel, our school social worker, has taken point on this project with help from our psychology assistant, Mr. Seebaugh. The mentors will focus on helping the students obtain some skills much needed in the transition from elementary school to middle school and beyond. These skills include but are not limited to, communication, impulse control, coping and social skills. The mentors will aid the students in mastering these skills by playing therapeutic board games, running around on the playground, decorating parts of the school and working on school projects together. To date we have completed four excitement filled visits. Our high school students have gone above and beyond to make the program fun and we have already noticed some relationships forming! We have high hopes that this program will be effective and beneficial for all of the students involved. We believe it is an excellent way to not only help the younger students transition to higher grade levels but also our older students transition into adulthood.

Belpre seventh grade participants in the Building Bridges 2 Careers Mentorship program attended a leadership day at Marietta College, followed by a personalized campus tour. These students meet regularly with their Career Mentors to learn more about their own interests and career options.

8th grade students in Mrs. McNally's science classes are dissecting flowers to better understand how genetic information is transmitted between parent and offspring in the plant world.

The Belpre Lions Club will be hosting a pancake dinner on Saturday, March 12, 2022 from 4-7. Kids under 5 eat free and adults pay just $7.

Tryouts for the Belpre Junior High softball team for grades 6 - 8 will be held on Saturday, February 26 at the Lawton gym at 4:00 p.m. Please bring your softball equipment and water, but wear regular athletic shoes, as cleats are not permitted on the gym floor. If you are unable to attend tryouts that day, please contact Chad or April Brookover at 304-916-6508.

*Attention BHS Track Athletes* Official practice for the 2022 season will begin Tuesday 2/22/22. All interested athletes report to the BHS gym @ 3:30pm to meet with the coaches and begin workouts.

A team comprised of K-12 teachers was formed to discuss grading practices and to explore new ideas. The team read Danny Hill’s book, The Grade Cleanse. BCS teaching and learning is changing to meet the ever changing demands of our students and therefore, BCS grading practices have to evolve to match our teaching and learning. This diverse team looked at our system as a whole as well as reflected upon individual practices. This team will share findings and recommended next steps with district stakeholders at the end of the month.

The regular monthly meeting of the Belpre City School District will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2022, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Stone Administration/Early Learning Center.  This meeting is a meeting of the Belpre City School District Board of Education in public to conduct the School District’s business and is not to be considered a public community meeting. There is a time for public participation during the meeting as indicated in the agenda.

Belpre teachers have been hard at work the last two days as we continue to bring our Portrait of A Graduate to life! Our teachers experienced project-based learning, learned how to give better feedback and created more focus and purpose in our lesson and unit design. In honor of National School Counseling Week, we would like to recognize our counselors for everything they do for our students and staff. They wear numerous hats to support students' mental health and academics. Thank you to all of our school counselors for their hard work and dedication to the district!

Belpre High School February Students of the Month Katlyn Dinnin is the daughter of Darren and Kayla Cline. She is a member of the National Honor Society, AERO, and National Society of High School Scholars (WSHSS.) Future plans include attending the University of Rio Grande to pursue a 4-year degree. Jacob Maze is the son of Jason Maze and Jennifer Haught. He has been a member of BHS Soccer, Number One Club, and AERO. Jacob maintains honor roll status and plans to attend the University of Akron. Congratulations!
